Wal-Mart Supercenter Joliet | New Construction

Client

Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

Architect

PB2 Architecture & Engineering

Role

General Contractor

In April 2007, ICI was contracted for the construction of another new Wal-Mart Supercenter, located in Joliet, Illinois. At the time, this was the third Supercenter undertook for the corporation, and the ICI Team completed the 205,000 square foot building situated on 21 acres in just 35 weeks.

This timeframe streamlined three weeks off the original construction completion date. This impressive schedule was achieved despite a late construction start due to permit delays and an unseasonably rainy spring. What is particularly impressive about the schedule is that the Team completed installation of 518,400 square feet of parking lot in just three (3) weeks.

Although this was the third Supercenter ICI undertook for Wal-Mart, this was the first store in which a brick and block construction method was implemented (typical construction of a Wal-Mart store of that time period includes pre-cast concrete panels). Despite the conversion to an alternate construction method, ICI maintained and even exceeded the project schedule.
