ICI competed the first LEGOLAND Discovery Center in the United States, located at the Streets of Woodfield Shopping Center in Schaumburg, Illinois. The interactive theme park held its highly-publicized grand opening right on schedule, opening to record numbers of excited patrons.

LEGOLAND, owned and operated by Merlin Entertainments Group, is an indoor, two-story, interactive theme park with approximately 32,000 SF of play arena. The venue combines hands- on activities with life-size adventures, including the
Adventure Trail, Dragon Ride, LEGO Factory Tour, and sight, sound, touch and smell filled 4-D Cinema.

Other highlights include the Model Builder Workshop, LEGO Hall of Fame featuring Harry Potter and Indiana Jones, Birthday Party Rooms, LEGO Cafe and LEGO Store.

Due to the small footprint, open communication was key to maximizing the work space. Intricate models that included a 13 foot tall giraffe and a Dragon roller coaster ride were constructed in Europe and shipped to the US. All the electrical and structural elements surrounding the installation of the models was coordinated by ICI.

According to Merlin’s Group Project Manager, Lutz Schaefer, “The site was clean, on schedule and very well handled.”
