ICI was contracted by Education Management Corporation (EDMC) to construct this state-of-the-art Audio Studio for The Illinois Institute of Art. Located in the LEED® EBOM, Gold Certified, West Mart Center, ICI worked in close proximity to operating lecture rooms and faculty offices, requiring close coordination with management, staff and subcontractors for a successful completion. ICI’s careful coordination and attention to detail ensured minimal disruption to the school’s normal daily operations and strict compliance with regulations required by the LEED EBOM Certification.

The project’s scope of work included demolition of three (3) existing classrooms prior to construction of the
elevated, insulated, lightweight slab on metal deck and isolation pads. Following demolition, the perimeter of the space was framed and drywalled and STC rated doors were procured and installed.

The interior of the space is defined by sloped ceilings, acoustical soffits and suspended acoustical treatments. Finishes in the space also include fabric wall panels, Helmholtz resonators, custom millwork sound diffusers and diffractals, wood, VCT and carpet flooring. Installation of the MEP systems incorporated intricate dimming systems, new HVAC with sound attenuating diffusers and a humidification system, and integration with the existing building fire alarm and sprinkler system.
