Wal-Mart Supercenter’s Green Roof System, Pullman Park, Chicago, IL

ICI’s newest Green Roof System, in progress at the Wal-Mart Supercenter @ Pullman Park in Chicago.  The light colored area is the TPO (1st Layer), the black is the protection matt (2nd Layer), the silver stripes you see running on an angle are drainage conduit (3rd Layer) and finally, the brown area is the growth medium, which will eventually cover the entire roof system.

Other “green” elements ICI incorporates into Wal-Mart stores include skylights and day lighting controls, L.E.D. lighting in the food cases, occupancy sensors and L.E.D. exterior signage.  Additionally, Wal-Mart mandates the use of low V.O.C. products and requires a reduction in waste, whereby materials are separated and recycled, with a stated goal of zero percent to landfills.

With 9 LEED Accredited Professionals and SWPPP Certified individuals on staff, ICI is easily capable of meeting the demands of Wal-Mart’s many sustainable initiatives.
